SPIDER VEINS TREATMENTS

What is medical sclerotherapy?

Medical sclerotherapy is a procedure used to improve the appearance of and treat the symptoms caused by varicose and spider veins like swelling, aching, night cramps, and burning. The procedure is performed by using a fine needle to inject a medicated or chemical solution into the vein that causes the vein to swell and eventually collapse. With time, the vein will eventually fade and dissolve.

What can I expect during the procedure?

For the duration of the procedure, you will be lying on your back with your legs slightly elevated. The treated area will be cleansed with alcohol and then a fine needle will be used to insert the solution into the designated veins. The solution will irritate the vein and cause it to swell, which blocks the blood flow. You may experience some minor discomfort or cramping when the needle is first inserted into the vein. Lidocaine can be used to numb the treated area and minimize any discomfort experienced during the procedure. Once the solution has been inserted, the needle will be withdrawn from the vein and compression will be applied to the treated area. Your doctor may massage the area as well to further disperse the solution and keep blood from entering the treated vein. The number of injections during the treatment can depend on the size and number of veins being treated.

How long will the treatment take?

Sclerotherapy treatments typically take about 30 minutes. The length of a treatment session can depend on how many veins are being treated during the procedure.

What is the recovery period like?

Compression stocking or bandages are recommended for about two weeks following the procedure, so the compression is maintained on the treated area. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities the same day of treatment, but we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for at least two weeks following the procedure. Walking and moving is an important part of your recovery as it will prevent blood clots from forming.

Are there any side effects?

Common side effects can include muscle cramps, bruising, stinging, or discomfort at the injection site and mild swelling of ankles or feet. These side effects are temporary and typically resolve on their own. Side effects usually subside within a few days to a few weeks of treatment.

Show off those legs again – with Confidence!

Spider veins are the small, thread-like colored veins that are most often seen on the surface of the skin. Spider veins, also known as telangiectasias, are found most commonly on the thighs or lower legs of women. They are hereditary, frequently occur in the legs and appear as dark or lighter shades of blue, purple or red.

It’s estimated that at least one third of the adult female population is troubled with this common problem. People often seek treatment for spider veins because of cosmetic concern. However, it is also common for spider veins to cause symptoms, such as aching, heaviness, itching and night cramps. Certain factors contribute to the development of spider veins, including heredity, pregnancy, hormonal factors, weight gain, occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing, and trauma.

Treatment options include:

Injection Sclerotherapy
Foam Sclerotherapy
Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy

VeinGO

It’s always disheartening when you see the telltale signs of aging. Graying hair, sagging skin and aches and pains. Another sign of aging, especially for women, is the appearance of spider veins. Spider veins are the annoying, thin veins that appear just under the surface of your skin. And while they don’t pose any health threat to you, they can certainly take away from the overall look of your legs.
Fight back against spider veins with the non-invasive VeinGo treatment. This non-invasive treatment for spider veins and other vascular problems is now available at the RB Vein Centre.

What is VeinGo?
VeinGo is an approved way to treat spider veins and other vascular issues such as telangiectasia. It does this by inserting a thin needle, no larger than a human hair, into the leg and using a microburst of heat to damage and eventually close the vein. The size of the needle performs two functions. The first is that the needle can treat extremely thin veins that normal sclerotherapy treatments can’t reach. It also reduces the pain of the procedure to a mere pinprick.

The microburst of heat coagulates the blood within the vein, causing it to collapse. It will eventually get naturally absorbed into the body and disappear.
The process is extremely quick and virtually painless. Depending on the amount of spider veins being treated, appointment times can be as short as 10 minutes and rarely last longer than half an hour.

Advantages of VeinGo
VeinGo treatment features no downtime, very little pain during the procedure and results that work. Most patients compare the pain felt during the procedure to a mosquito bite. There is no pain felt while the microbursts are happening within the vein.
There is no downtime associated with VeinGo. Patients don’t need any anesthetic treatment, and there is no blood lost during treatment. The procedure is so easy that you can squeeze an appointment within a lunch hour, or in between errands.
Treatment is also extremely effective. Once the vein has been clogged, it’s slowly absorbed into the body and never seen again. The blood that once flowed through it is simply rerouted to nearby veins. Multiple veins can be treated at one time so that entire spider vein clusters can be treated at once.
